Behind The Lens

Location

Photo taken at Guano Point in the mighty Grand Canyon, overlooking the Colorado River. This was a trip to celebrate a special birthday.

Time

It was taken just as the sun was setting and the shadows being cast were amazing.

Lighting

Taking the shot at different heights, sitting, standing and even lying puts a different lighting effect. I was crouching for this one!

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3300 camera.

Inspiration

I was sat on ledge watching the eagles circle above and was actually waiting to capture a good shot...but as the sun began to set the colours in the sky became more interesting, and as the branch swayed beside me in the breeze I knew this was the photo I wanted, and this is the result

What equipment do I normally have with me? Not much for the Nikon to be honest, just a lens cloth. It was a new camera and I was just getting the feel of it! I also have a Sony, and only have a long lens and flash for that.

Feedback

I wish I could give you a few tips, but I can’t! Ttust your gut, take 1 shot, take 5, take as many as you need to or just until your happy with that 1 ... my partner, who is a photographer incidentally, disagrees. But he does agree I can get a good shot without trying!
