Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Sa Pa, Vietnam whilst traveling through South East Asia. The community their makes part of their living from selling beautifully crafted bracelets.

Time

This photo was taken around 3pm after trekking to get to the top of the mountain. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in my entire life.

Lighting

The view was incredible but the sun wasn’t out. It was a grey day but very warm nonetheless!

Equipment

I used my Nikon d-7000. Since that trip I now shoot solely on my minolta x700, a analog film camera.

Inspiration

Both the view and the people inspired me to take this photo. I had been talking and playing with the kids before hand and I shot this photo as they were leaving the scene.

Editing

I didn’t do much post- processing, only adjusting the lighting and de-hazing the photograph so that the children were more visible.

In my camera bag

In my bag, I usually carry my Minolta x700, three rolls of 35mm kodak portra film, my purse, my phone and some water.

Feedback

I can only advice photographers to simply follow their instincts. With photography, it’s not so much about what you shoot but how you shoot what you see. So I can advice people to think less about the subject matter and more about their angles and their camera settings. Just follow what you feel like shooting and what attracts your eye.
