Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home in Northern Nevada.

Time

I don't remember exactly what time this was taken. I think it was about midday when the sun was going down.

Lighting

The room was dark for the most part. I used a small desk lamp for lighting the subjects.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5000 and 18-55mm kit lens. No flash, handheld.

Inspiration

These were my puppies. These are brothers. Their mother is a husky and the father is a pit bull. I am the owner of the parents too. I wanted to capture their eyes because they are so blue. They have two sisters that have brown eyes. I set the puppies up on my 'photo table' and let them decide how to pose... (It isn't easy to tell a puppy to stay) I was just about to give up, but these two decided to strike a pose. It was pure luck that this shot happened. I still have the brown one. He isn't a little puppy anymore, he weighs about 80 lbs now and on his hind legs he is about 5 foot tall. My daughter owns the white one now, he isn't as big though. They both still have the blue eyes

Editing

The only editing I did was to add a little color saturation.

In my camera bag

Nikon D5000, 18-55 mm lens, 70-200 mm lens, and some filters for the 18-55nm.

Feedback

My advice is to be patient. Look at different angles, and be ready to snap away. It helps to have a toy or treat to catch the attention if the dog.
