Behind The Lens

Location

A small northern town in New York called Redfield.

Time

This photo was taken around 10:30 in the morning.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect because there was a light cloud cover on a mostly bright sunny day.

Equipment

At the time of this photo I was using a Nikon D610 and a Tamron 150-600mm ver 1 lens. This shot was handheld with no other equipment used.

Inspiration

I have always been fascinated with Eagles and I was actually out scouting Bald Eagles in the area when I came upon this beautiful Golden Eagle, which are very uncommon for this area. They were once near extinction and are coming back strong. They are a very magnificent creature and truly are kings and queens of the sky!

Editing

As I was only about 45 feet away from the Eagle, very minimal cropping was used. Tones, contrast, and highlights were used slightly in Adobe Photoshop.

In my camera bag

In the past I used Nikon, but recently changed over to Canon. In my bag I now have the following tools: Canon 7D Mark II, Canon EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM, Canon Extender EF 1.4X II, Canon Extension Tubes for Macro, Canon EF-S 55-250mm F/4-5.6 IS STM for Macro, Tamron 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD for landscapes, CPL filter, neutral density filter, Yongnuo manual flash controller, 2x Yongnuo speed light YN560 III, Black Rapid camera strap, multiple SD and CF cards, batteries, ball head, Gimbal head, tripod, and other accessories.

Feedback

Keeping your eyes open and having patience is key to getting great photographs, especially when trying to capture wildlife. Most animals are skittish, so having the patience to wait for the perfect shot is important. Keeping your eyes open is important as something may appear unexpectedly. Know your camera settings and always be prepared for the unknown.
