Behind The Lens
Location
I took this picture two years ago, during a trip to California. Unfortunately, it was foggy the whole time and this is pretty much the only shot i got of the Golden Gate.Time
It was around midday when i decided to rent a bicycle and made a tour around San Francisco bay. The bridge was half out of the fog so i decided to go that direction but the time to get there the weather decided otherwise and so the visibility was reduced to something like 40 meters. It is not really the shot i wanted to take but at the end he result was very nice, dramatic and almost terrific.Lighting
Well, there is not much to say about lighting in this case. It was foggy an i only used the natural light.Equipment
I only used my second camera, a small Nikon D3300 with the 18-55mm coming with the kit. I had nothing else at this time.Inspiration
I was at first a bit disappointed because The golden Gate bridge is such a symbol and, as a photographer, when i decided to go in San Francisco, the bridge was in my "Must shoot" list. But then when i arrived at the middle of the bridge and i start looking around me, being surrounded by the fog, the water was barely visible down the bridge, i thought that it was a great mystic ambiance and i start shooting and it was great! Very different from what i expected for sure but i just found the way to take some good shots playing with this mist and the contrast with the color of the bridgeEditing
I don't do a lot of post processing, just giving a tone with lightroom. I have my own presets so it's going pretty fast, i just apply them and then i just make it more precise. In my camera bag
Now, i have a Nikon D7200 and i always have a small tripod with me, a second battery of course, my remote, some filters, ND8, ND1000 and CP-L, my "all-purpose" lens as i use to call it, which is a Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8, a Nikon 35mm f/1.8, depends of the day i also carry a Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 but more specially if i expect to do some wildlife shoots also in natural parks for exemple. And also a complete cleaning kit!Feedback
It is not really a situation i was expecting, that is what makes my shot so special probably, but i always go out with some equipment that will fit in most of the situations so i can adapt myself on the field and be prepared to lots of different situations. I think the most important is to have those lens you are confortable with, that you know very well, because then, everything comes naturally because you know what you are doing without event thinking about it.
