the challenge when shooting back-lit subjects, is to get enough detail in the shadow without losing all the highlights. How much detail is enough and what is the accurate mid-point of the luminancel range ? Every image is different, but by shooting hi-key (expose shadow values as if they were the mid tones), the Kalahari dawn opens in a palette of softest pastel. I could just chase that sweet light my whole life long for those few moments when it finds me. Here we met up in the dawn, on the side of the Kamqua dune road

Wolfie...explan your rationale for me in a PM on FB please...do you expose for the shadows and then have the rest almost blown out? If so, how do you fix it in PP ( the overexposed areas ?) Love this photo, the ethereal light is just awesome.
