The New Zealand Merino is notable for its heavily wrinkled skin, most noticeable in the lambs. In many farming countries selective breeding has produced smooth-skinned merinos but this has not been done in New Zealand. It is felt that extra wool left on after shearing with the wrinkled skin helps survival in the harsh and highly variable high country environment. Available as a stock photo at Country, Farm and Garden Photo Library ( http:--www.cfgphoto.com- ).
