Location
This was taken at Vitruvian Park in Addison, Tx. As an amateur photographer, I am always looking for something new to shoot and have really enjoyed night photography.Time
The lights at the park are only on the month of December to celebrate the holidays. I took off work a little early and got to the park right at sunset and walked around looking at different areas and shooting many. This is one of my favorites from that night as the water in front of it happened to be calmer than the rest of the lake as it was a windy night.Lighting
What you see is what you get with the lighting, there was no additional lighting or flash necessary.Equipment
I shoot with a Canon t3i that my wife got me for Christmas a few years ago and am new to the digital realm. Lost my trusty Pentax in a house fire many years ago and only had a small point and shoot until she bought it for me. This was shot with the T3i on a tripod with the kit 18-55mm lens ISO 200 F8 for 3 seconds.Inspiration
I had seen other shots of the park from local photographers and on the local news. Seeing it on the news with all the lights, I knew I needed to get there to shoot them. The hardest part was getting a shot without people as it really was crowded.Editing
I do little post processing, I try my best to shoot what I like in camera. In this case (as with some other shots) I did adjust the brightness and contrast just slightly. That is generally all I do post.In my camera bag
At the time, I normally carried the camera, a flash, a Sigma 70-250 mm lens, the 18-55 kit lens, a remote trigger, flashlight and a few filters. Since then, I have added a "nifty 50" and a 10-18 mm lenses.Feedback
Take your time, look around you and see all the different angles you can shoot from. With night shots, I generally like to go out during the day to scout a good area first, be it the same day or a few days before hand. Areas like this, you also want to get there early before the crowds show up unless you prefer a lot of people in your shot (in this case I did not).
