Walking as farrr back as one can get along the little canals, over the beautifully wrought bridges; back in the alley ways of Venice I came upon a small nook of Venice that evokes every BIT of what Italy is to me. This was my vision of Italy. It seemed I had stepped back into 1952. Men were gathered together in the courtyard at the end of this path, in small circles , smoking, laughing and discussing the important details of the day; cigars, people, politics, women. The young women were sitting on benches under beautiful trees, talking and laughing; breastfeeding their children and watching the older ones bounce balls against buildings older than you can imagine. Ladies sitting in cafes, children running into the ice cream shop while the owner shouted in Italian "mama said no more!" I loved the boys playing along the canal with their own motorized boats; they put them into the water just after I clicked this photo. This photo, for me, depicts life as I love it. It was safe, secure, loving, natural and real. Venice is my heart.
