Location
This was taken at our local beach, Fort Island Beach on the Gulf of Mexico, in West Central Florida.Time
It was among the first sunset pictures I took after purchasing my first DSLR camera. I had struggled on previous occasions to get the settings right to achieve the colors that were all around me.Lighting
Sunsets on Florida's West Coast are spectacular, the colors range from vivid oranges to dark reds depending on the time of year and the evening time. This one was taken in late July or August i(f my memory serves me right,) possibly around 8pm time. Unfortunately back then I did not keep a log of dates and times of photos. I have learned much since then.Equipment
I used my Sony a500, with a Tamron 17-275mm lens. No filters were used, and the camera was set on Manual and hand held.Inspiration
I have always loved watching the sun rise over our condo on the Atlantic side of Florida. Often we would leave the condo to return to our house on Florida's West coast and be home just in time to see the sun go down. After taking a series of sun-rise photos, I thought it would be great to get some as the sun set over the Gulf. Thus we left the condo early enough to return home and get down to the beach. The other consideration for taking these photos, was the assignment given in the photography course I was doing at the time for silhouettes. The instructor was pleased with the results.Editing
When I took this the course instructor had me do a crop since the horizon was in the middle of the image. For this photo that was the only PP I did, because I did not have LR or PS, the only app I had access to was Picassa. In my camera bag
Nowadays, when I pack my back pack the first thing to go in is my Sony a7II mirrorless body, my sony 100-400mm lens with a 2x teleconvertor. Always next to go in is one of my other sony DSLR bodies with my tamron 275mm and 300mm lens. Then the usual assortment of filters, spare memory cards, spare batteries and cleaning equipment. Since nowadays most of my photography is bird or wildlife, always bug-spray, and hand wipes are put in. . When travelling abroad, I pack all of the above in my rollaboard, and also include a card reader, my laptop, tablet and external hard-drive. A tripod and bean bag is packed in my suit case.Feedback
Florida's West coast and the Keys provide spectacular views for Sunset pictures, and the Atlantic side for beautiful Sun-rise vistas. The colors for both times of day are so vivid. The one piece of advice I can give is, practice, practice, practice.
