Parakeets have been popular pets since the Victorian era, and inevitably, many have been released or have escaped over the years. Despite their tropical origin Parakeets are fully able to survive, and even thrive, in the cold British weather.
British Parakeets, despite good numbers living in the wild for a long time, only started to bread in 1969 in Kent (south east of London). currently numbers are in excess of 5,000 and its still growing.
As a Kentish man I feel these birds have become a symbol of my home and love seeing them. this photo was taken outside my window on a tree on witch they regularly sit and feed.
