Location
This image was from a series of images with conceptual makeup from HMUA Sophie Daly and model Beth Smith at my home studio in Stanford-Le-Hope, Essex.Time
It was taken in early afternoon so I could use the day light coming in through the window as my modeling light.Lighting
The lighting was a deliberately soft light, so I used a double diffuser and the white internal reflector spoon on the 70 cm square portalite that came with my elinchrom lighting set. To help with the softness I set the aperture to f2.8Equipment
Sony A7 Elinchrom D-Lite RX One Portalite 70cm softbox Samyang 85mmInspiration
I wanted to take soft light image to make the makeup pop out and give slightly old fashioned dreamy look.Editing
Standard photoshop stuff really - Clean the background and skin from spots, small bit of skin softening, tidy up the hair. Finish the image with some colour grading - I believe I chose an olive colour for the tinting. In my camera bag
I always have my 55mm 1.8 for fashion and product and my 100mm macro for tight portraits and macro work. Always pack a light meter as I like to know what the light is rather than guessing.Feedback
Keep it simple - broad well diffused light and use a shallow depth of field around f2.8.
