Behind The Lens
Location
I took this picture out around the house. We have a forested mountain behind the house and it always has an abundance of plants, flowers, and critters.Time
I took this shot in the evening around 5pm or so.Lighting
Any time I do macro or otherwise close up small shots I try to get in good sunlight. This set of flowers were on the edge of the forest brush so I had somewhat shaded sunlight.Equipment
So far I haven't put much into my equipment. For macros I use a lens adaption or my 55-200. In this instance it was the 55-200. The adapter gets me too close to the butterfly and they don't like that. Other than that I had hold and move as needed to focus.Inspiration
I'm a collector of sorts. I go out and look for images I haven't photographed before, or a better angle or lighting on some I have photographed. I may decide beforehand macro, landscape, animal, etc, but overall I just find something I haven't taken and take it. There are plenty of insects around and some (like the butterfly) won't let you close, so I try for those. This one was pose perfectly and didn't seem to mind me being there.Editing
My post processing is similar for almost all of my images. I add exposure and contrast then boost clarity and saturation. What I'm photographing decides what other adjustments I make but they're usually slight. In my camera bag
Being a "cheap" photographer so far I have basic and cheap equipment. There's my d3300, a 18-55 and 55-200 kit lenses, a macro/wide adaptor lens, tripod, remote shutter, and a 3d printer macro tube. I usually don't need a spare battery or sd cards but have them ready to pack as needed.Feedback
Insects being small like to run and hide so I would say small slow movement is best when getting to them. They get distracted when they're busy eating and can be easier to get them. Patience is your best friend well that and good cool non windy weather. The beautiful thing about digital photography is there is almost no limit to the images you can take, so take until you get it to your liking.
