Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Fort Worth Zoo. I am a self taught photographer so taken shots of live animals and natural light help me learn the adjustment I need to make.

Time

I wanted to get the family there early to miss the big rush of families and tours. We made it to this exhibit around 11am when the animals were still hanging around.

Lighting

Since it was taken at the zoo I had all natural sunlight without flashes to cause them to get upset.

Equipment

At the time I was still learning so I had my Canon T3i. When a crowd starts forming a tripod isn't the best thing to have. I steadied myself as best as I could to take every shot.

Inspiration

I loved the pose that it provided at the time like it was just waking up or trying to relax before the other orangutan showed up to ruin the moment.

Editing

Usually I don't do any but I wanted to bring out it's natural color in the sun. Photodirector is a simple tool that I use when I want to process a photo and make minor adjustments myself.

In my camera bag

To this day I still carry my T3i along with my 80D. I never what situation I'm going to be in so I have the 50mm, 2 55-250mm lenses (one is an upgraded lens), and a 75-300mm with a few fisheye and macro lenses.

Feedback

The best advice I can give to anyone is keep your camera close. You don't want to miss some of those moment that may never happen again.
