Location
I took this photo in front of the Ascension Chapel on the grounds of the Episcopal Church Camp in Cove, Oregon.Time
After driving 300+ miles from a major airport and negotiating snow storms and snow covered roads, I arrived at this location about 2 PM. The snow had not stopped and I didn't want to spend a lot of time because I had another 45 miles and one more mountain pass to negotiate before we were "Home for Christmas".Lighting
Quite frankly, the lighting was terrible because of the snow still falling when I took the photo.Equipment
This comment will shock most of the people who have liked this photo and awarded many kudos. I didn't have a lot of time because of our destination and the fact it was snowing hard so I took this photo--------with my i Phone! thinking during the holidays, I could come back and retake the photo with a real camera!Inspiration
I spent many summers at this church camp as a teenager. I took my best friend who later gave his life to the Lord so there were many many memories formed here. I still remember the song we used to sing in the evening after chapel in front of that bright red door before going to bed in our cabins. I wasn't able to return as often as I wanted because we had moved to North Carolina and this church is in Eastern Oregon.Editing
When I put this photo on my computer, I erased one building that was detracting from the photo, I lightened the photo slightly because of the gray sky, straightened the photo slightly and added a very small amount of saturation bringing the brightness out on the red door.In my camera bag
My camera of choice has always been Sony. I wore out my first DLSR out and am now using a Sony A77II with a 16-50mm 2.8 lens. I use a 75-300mm 4.5-5.6 zoom lens for long shots and close-up for flowers and butterflies/bees. My back-up is a "point and shoot" Nikon Coolpix S9700 with a 30x Wide lens. I do have another back-up just in case. A Nikon D70 with pretty much the same lens as the Sony.Feedback
Since I considered myself an "amateur" with no training I usually tell others who ask, practice practice practice. I do read up on photography hints that I sometimes get on social media. Helpful hints I tell others who ask, be aware of the surroundings of a photo you are taking. Try to eliminate "noise" in your photo, consider the 1/3 rule as much as possible and have patience and persistence in getting the "right" photo. “ Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst." – Henri Cartier-Bresson
