Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outside of the Des Moines Botanical Gardens. We actually planned to shoot inside, but were not able to at that day.

Time

This was taken during golden hour in the fall, when the sun was just coming down and the lighting was perfect.

Lighting

I wanted to include those shadows on the wall to create interest and I think it turned out well.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon EOS Rebel T5 with a 18-55mm lens. I tend to think that it doesn't matter what kind of camera you have to create great photos.

Inspiration

I saw the way the shadows looked on the wall and wanted to have my model so they could be seen. I decided to frame the photo through the spaces of the trellis.

Editing

Yes, I use Lightroom to edit and I liked the way it looked in black and white because it has a lot more contrast.

In my camera bag

I typically just bring my camera, my 50mm lens, my 18-55mm lens, an extra battery, my Polaroid camera, and some bubblegum (just in case) :)

Feedback

my advice is that the best lighting is always during golden hour, just before the sun sets. As a photographer you have to learn to be flexible because the weather or other situations could come up and you just need to take it in stride and shoot anyways. Sometimes my unplanned photos are my best photos!
