What's the story behind this photo?

There is an article online that states it's from the "Skull Church". The skulls are from the bodies of 50,000 people who died in the plague. I wish they had a respectful burial.

It reminds me of the catacombs in Paris, there are tunnels and tunnels with the same "arrangements" dating back to rearrangement of cemeteries at the end of the 19 th century (If I am not wrong)
