Time

The subject in this photograph is my grandfather. He gave me full support and courage in everything I do. Despite the fact that he cannot walk well, he moved to Canada in order to be with me. In addition, he cannot hear well, but every time I play the piano, he would come and listen to me. I always found this fascinating because the piano is far away from where he usually sits. When I asked him if he wanted to try the piano, he was very excited. That’s when I realized that he enjoyed piano very much and has always admired me for being able to play. I was surprised because I thought it’s always the younger one that admires the older one. I chose to capture the moment when his finger touches the keys because it resembles the connection between the youth and the elderly. This is emphasized by focusing on the wrinkles on his hand. Also, the watch on the top right corner symbolizes time that passed by as he aged. Black and white photography relies heavily on lighting and contrast since it is monochrome. The blurry background puts emphasis on his hand and the hand directs the viewer’s eye to his watch.
