The graffiti on one of the stones is believed to have been done by Sir Christopher Wren. The lighting from the sun, at this time of year, highlights the inscription, which may be the time of year that he carved it into the stone. He used to live not too far away in East Knoyle.
One story is that the dome of St Paul's Cathedral (which he designed) would fit very nicely onto the outer circle of stones if they were complete. To the left of the inscription is a cross, which is a shortening of ther word christ, or Christopher.
