Location
This photo was taken in our backyard in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.Time
This was taken at 10:26 am on Thursday, November 03/ 2016. A couple of things happened that day, (1) I had just bought my first macro lens prior to that I was using Tiffen screw on lens and the (2nd) thing was that it had been raining and cold all night and the rain had stopped at about 10 am,so I grabbed my camera and new lens and out I went to our flower garden.Lighting
The lighting was natural. Our garden was on the east side of the yard and the sun comes up in the east. With it being in early November the sun was not very high and being partly blocked by the neighbors building and trees it made for a nice soft light and if I recall I turned so the sun was at a 90 degree angle to my camera and lens.Equipment
My equipment is very standard. I used a Nikon d3200 ,with a Sigma 105 mm lens. My tripod is a Cameron T300BH & Cameron Ball Head. I did not use a flash on this day. My settings for this shot was 1/80 sec./ f/14 & ISO 100Inspiration
I didn't need much inspiration for this photo. My wife had just purchased this Sigma 105 mm Macro Lens for me a Christmas gift. I talked her into letting me play with it so off to work she went and as soon as it had quit raining I went outside. I saw this beautiful yellow flower with half frozen rain drops on it's petals and knew I had to capture it. It was frozen in the garden and I now have it frozen in time.Editing
I did not do much post-processing that I can remember. I used Lightroom and changed the photo to Black & White. I dropped the Highlights and upped the Shadows then worked on the Black & White sliders. In my camera bag
Wow this is a loaded question LOL. lenses- I have 3 sigmas- 105mm 2.8 macro, 10-20mm 1:3.5 & 150-500mm 1:35-6.3 Nikon 70-300mm and the 18-55mm Kit Lens. Filters I have Cokin Grad Filter System, Hoya R72 Infrared Filter, Cameron Polarizing Filter, Cameron Variable ND Filter (screw type). My flash is a Cameron W700HS TTL-N & HSS240 TTL Trigger set. I carry a third arm to hold objects like flowers & other clamps. Various things for cleaning lens, different brushes, a Pocket Box (soft box), knife, flash light, extra batteries and a macro slide.Feedback
When doing Macro Photography I find that is relaxing, you my not get what you went out after but you just keep going out and eventually you will get that shot you wanted or you will get the one you didn't try to capture, but everyone loves it. Keep an eye on the sun you don't want it intense or you will blow your subject out (over exposed), and remember you are playing with a very shallow depth of field.
