Carpenter bees have short mouthparts and are important pollinators on some open-faced or shallow flowers.They are so called as they mostly nest in woods. Mainly solitary, there are 3 main species in Singapore: X. latipes, confusa and caerulea. X. latipes is the largest Singapore bee. Both male and female are all black, except that the male has pale hairy front legs. X. confusa is smaller. Male has more blue on the head.
