This photo was taken on the Isle of Skye, Scotland at the Sligachan bridge looking towards Marsco. I was standing just below the new road bridge looking out towards the Black Cuillin's. I had to the shot from quite a height to avoid a bright coloured tent in the foreground of someone wide camping in a very public spot.Time
The shot was taken on our way back from the Fairy Pools, we stopped off at the car park beside the River Sligachan. The photo was the pano of two shots taken at approximately 4:00 in the afternoon.Lighting
The day had been quite overcast all day, but just as I was taking the shot a brief glimpse of sun hit the Marsco Mountain in the background. The long exposure gave a very pleasing sky but had the bonus of taking out moving people on the bridge and rock by the river.Equipment
Nikon D750 with kit lens (24-120mm F4) at 24mm F18 30sec. I used a Tripod with remote shutter release and a SRB Photographic circular 10 Stop ND filter.Inspiration
Prior coming over to Skye I had done quite a bit of research on what other photographers where taking shots of and had planned a day at the Fairy Pools, Glenbrittle and Talisker on the shores of Loch Harport. I spotted this shot on the way in but there was too many tourists clambering over the rock and old bridge. Thankfully on the way back there were very about and with a bit of patients managed to get a series of shots with very few people in them.Editing
This was a pano shot taken from two RAW exposures pulled together in Lightroom CC. I also used Lightroom for some basic processing and then took the shot into Photoshop to remove a few distractions and carry out a little dodging and burning.In my camera bag
These shots were taken on a family holiday therefore only had a single body with the kit lens with a selection of filters and a travel tripod.Feedback
There are a number of issues with taking photos in Skye during the summer, you first of all have to contend with the midges, who will eat you a live if you stay still for any length of time. After them the next biggest distraction is the unending stream of tourists, who will insist in walking and standing in the middle of your shots. This is before you take into consideration the weather, you can easily get 4 season in one day, which maybe to your advantage, if you don't like the light hang about and its sure to change.
