Location
Taken in the grounds of Steyn City South Africa th. A live broadcast for 67 blankets for Nelson Mandela.Time
Can't remember the exact time, was late afternoon.Lighting
I was battling to find the right angle to take the photo. I had to walk up a little hill with rolling slopes. I didn't want the light to make his face too dark or you wouldn't see the emotion in it.Equipment
My newly gifted Nikon D3100 camera which I didn't know how to use properly so it was alot of guessing.Inspiration
It was a strange moment having just attended this charity event where there were alot of people, buzz and hype and television cameras. My first time ever going to something like this. I was leaving, driving down the road deep in thought, as I approached the exit I looked back to take in one last moment. My eye caught the tip of something on the rolling hills. I uturned the car and took a walk on the soft green grass. There he was just so amazing. Instinctively I looked around wanting to share my WOW with someone; nit a soul in sight. Just me, my camera and the man.. large, sculptured, rustic, emotional and unbelievably beautiful in the silence. It was so quiet and peaceful. I wonder what words of wisdom he would have whispered to me if he had a voice, what would his voice sound like. I took this photo because I wanted to share the absolute delight of emotions and feelings I experienced in that moment. A story. You could have no vision or hearing or speak a different language to me, but still this photo will tell you A Story.Editing
None. I dont do any editing to my photos. May only crop if need be I want you to see it as I see it in that moment. In my camera bag
Camera. 55x200mm lens and 18x55mm lens. Spare battery and charger. Memory stick. Cleaning cloth. Some spare money. Notebook and pen.Feedback
Take it. Good or bad. That photo will tell a story. Be the Story Teller. Some will love it, some will hate it and the in betweeners won't think much of it. That's ok. It's your story...
