Location
This picture was taken a few years ago while visiting the Trentino-Alto Adige region in Northern Italy. Weather was nice but a little unpredictable. I distinctly remember that we had some rain earlier in the morning. I was driving through this scenic road when I spotted this lagoon and just saw the picture in it.Time
It may have been around 10AM when I got to that spot and started shooting, and that is because my breakfast started at 8AM sharp and would last for hour and a half while chatting with the owner of this wonderful B&B. Every morning, "Marinone" was pointing us where to go in the Trento area. That day we left in a hurry as we were heading to Bolzano and made the stop to capture this scene.Lighting
I was lucky to have an overcast sky that gave the fall colors a more even light allowing them to become the main protagonist more than the geometry of their shapes so to speak.Equipment
This was taken with a Nikon D5300, Aperture 56/10, ISO 400, Shutter 10/800, and Focal Length 550/10Inspiration
I live in Canada, but by late October there are no more colors on the landscape, everything becomes brown and lifeless until the first snow hits the ground and a new light spreads. Here we are in Northern Italy, and the colors are still so vivid. I could not take that shot.Editing
I gave the picture a touch of additional contrast to get more from the reflexion on the water, I still have a long way to learn on editing to actually do something worth of mentioning.In my camera bag
I always pack my Nikon D5300, a few lenses: 50mm, 18-35mm, and a 55-300mm. Haven't experimented much with filters yet, but I'm planning to.Feedback
I'm a believer in trying, just go out there and start shooting. Try different times of the day, bring some food (and wine) and take as many shots as you think is worth. You will be surprised the number of little things that go unnoticed to the amateur photographer (birds, wind gusts that rearrange the trees and vegetation, or even the water itself, etc...) and once you sit with your images before a big screen, you realize you can have such unique images. Experiment, be bold, try new things (textbook or not) and you will have more fun. Guaranteed.
