Behind The Lens

Location

Some friends and I went hiking around the Silver Creek Falls area, Oregon, and there was such power in this waterfall, that I had to take a photo of it!

Time

I think it was mid-morning. But there wasn't any sun, and it was a little misty.

Lighting

I didn't use the flash, and the clouds were covering up the sun. So really, it was perfect natural lighting.

Equipment

Just my Canon Powershot A1300.

Inspiration

The power in all the water coursing over the cliff. It was amazing to hear it roar, and to feel the mist as it fell.

Editing

I turned it to black and white, which I think showed-off the power of the falls.

In my camera bag

A Canon Powershot A1300, a Nikon D3400, 18 - 55 lens, 50 - 300 mm zoom lens, macro and telephoto lenses, external flash, extra batteries, memory card, and a remote. I also have a tripod, but (obviously) it can't fit in my bag. ;)

Feedback

Try out different angles to capture the power of the subject. As far as editing goes, experiment! The main reason that I changed it to b&w is because I wanted to mute all the other colors, so that the focus of the photo would be on the falls. And it ended up showing the power of it, too. So try out new things! It could lead you to a great composition! :)
