Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Grand Canyon.

Time

It was in the evening, before sunset.

Lighting

If you are not used to living around the canyon or mountains, sunset happens earlier in the summer than we are used to. I saw the soft filtered rays coming through the tree and the way the sun was hitting the rock on the left side. I also liked the way the sun itself was framed through the branches.

Equipment

NikonD5100 with the Sigma 18-250 macro lens. The shot was handheld, no tripod or flash involved.

Inspiration

The rays, the light filtering through the leaves, the way the light was coming through the clouds as well as the line of clouds themselves. I also liked the way the two trees framed the shot.

Editing

I always do dome post processing since I shoot in RAW format. I generally use the curves tool, play with brightness, contrast, shadows, highlights. I also use some brushes to bring out detail and I also crop it for the web.

In my camera bag

NikonD5100, Sigma 18-250 macro lens, Nikon 35 mm lens, a lens pen, microfiber cloth, extra battery and sd card, pencil, battery charger, lens caps, a $20.00.

Feedback

Shoot what catches your eye. It does not matter whether anyone else thinks it is inspiring, cool, interesting, etc... If you think it is one of those things, go ahead and take the shot. You never know who else might enjoy it and even if they do not, as long as you do enjoy it, that is all that matters.
