A soldier salutes as "To the Colors" is sounded and the flag is lowered for the night.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with military customs, the retreat marks the end of the duty day and also is a ceremony that shows respect for the flag. All soldiers that are outdoors are required to drop everything and face the flag (or music if the flag can't be seen) and go to parade rest. After the retreat is sounded there is a short pause in which the solders will then go to attention and salute while "To the Colors" is then played. While "To the Colors" is playing the flag detail will lower and fold the flag. If done properly, the flag will be lowered and folded before the music ends.
I took this a few years back with a kinda crappy camera so the quality ain't the best, however to this day it remains one of my favorite photos. Ignore that it says this was taken with a Nikon D50, I am not a Nikon fan and have never owned one. This was actually taken with a really old point-n-shoot Panasonic Lumix that if I remember right had a whopping 5mp sensor. Talk about stone age digital photography.
