Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Warrior Stadium in Ingram, Texas. Jackson Maroney, who serves as a ballboy, is an integral part of the team, which included his older brother Tucker, and always runs in with the team.

Time

The photo was taken just as the Ingram Tom Moore High School Warriors were entering the field prior to a game. The time was very close to 7 pm which would have been twilight here.

Lighting

It was all natural

Equipment

I use a Canon 7D and a 7D Mark II. This was taken from distance with a 200mm f2.8.

Inspiration

I specialize in what i call spontaneous portraits. I am always looking for an opportunity to catch a piece of who someone is, without them being aware of the camera, at least in the moment.

Editing

I only do some color correction as needed for a mix of twilight and stadium lights, and some sharpening to create contrasty edges.

In my camera bag

I don't normally even carry a 'bag' . . . i go to a shoot knowing what i am after and what equipment will handle it best . . . i sometimes carry a second lens literally in my pocket if i think additional angles are important (i work almost exclusively with prime lenses).

Feedback

With action shots like this i can't emphasize enough in this digital age to take lots and lots of pictures. You can focus on hitting that right moment, BUT there are always little obstacles. I can't count the number of times that the shot i wanted didn't work, but another in a burst of shots was far better anyway.
