I was asked to photograph the memorial service of a friend and fallen hero who died too young. This photo is of his mother. It is by far the hardest photo I have ever taken. I had never photographed emotion like that before, grief, sadness, anguish. It took it's toll on me. A lot of people have questioned my doing this. It was at the request of the family. The deceased was a friend. I had photographed he and his unit before and became close. He was married to a relative.
