Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on north shore of Oahu, in the Hawaiian islands. About a 1/4 mile out with crystal blue water.

Time

Shot around mid-day

Lighting

She came right at me. Was out trying to shoot dolphins with girls in mermaid tails when the opportunity for that shot passed I panned left and this beautiful girl came right into my life. I’m thankful that I bumped the settings up a stop just before I pgot into the water making contrast.

Equipment

A surfing camera housing a tokina 10-17mm set at 13mm with a canon 60d.

Inspiration

I was blessed to be in the right place at the right time.

Editing

I converted this photo to black and white. I knew that I would the moment I took the photo.

In my camera bag

I design and manufacture my own camera water housings out of carbon fiber, so that’s always in my bag. I like to carry my canon, 50 mm, tokina 10-17, and a longer lens just Incase.

Feedback

I find it best to keep my lens at 13mm to fit the massive animals in frame and to under expose the shot a little to make the contrast between the whale and ocean pop!
