Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in one of my absolute favourite places in Ireland that I make sure to go to every time I visit the country. It's called The National reptile zoo and is in co Kilkenny

Time

This photo was taken during one of my visits of the National reptile zoo where they have a fantastic green iguana enclosure where you are allowed to go in and closely interreact with the iguana family. They all are very friendly and ready to pose if you happen to have a camera with you. This particular iguana female was captured in this photo whilst enjoying good basking in the light.

Lighting

I wanted this image to be with a good contrast to make the iguana clear vocal point into the photo. I also wanted the light to show the beautiful different skin textures of the lizard and have the scales pop.

Equipment

For this photo I actually used a very old but trusted Olympus camera that sadly I do not own anymore so I have forgotten the model but it wasn't anything fancy just more of a 'point and shoot camera'

Inspiration

I love animals, so when I have them close up and personal I never miss the opportunity to create wonderful photography. I especially love when I succeed in bringing out the animals emotion and characteristics, like in this photo the iguana looks very pleased, relaxed yet majestic and almost a bit arrogant.

Editing

I did edit this photo as I do with all of my photos. I chose to make this shot in black and white as well as simplify the background to one simple colour to bring focus to the iguana as the main subject as well as amplify the majestic feel to the image.

In my camera bag

As photography is only a hobby for me I don't really use a lot of tech and gadgets to create images. I rely more on luck, good composition and my editing skills to create a finished produced. For everyday use if I will happen to see something interesting in nature I will always have my phone at hand to create a decent image I can work with but for the days I want to be more serious I have a new handy Nikon D3500 18-55VR kit that is easy to use.

Feedback

If you are trying to capture something similar my advice is just to be patient and keep a keen eye out for the right moment to capture your photo. Animals are very unpredictable, they can move fast so once you see them relaxed and calm that's the time to capture their emotions
