Street Style was shot outside in an alley way in Long Beach, California. The outside wall texture is unique and I thought it would create an interesting backdrop to create a story/ shoot while being authentic in combining textures, industrial buildings and street style.Time
Street Style was part of a series shoot that day. When scouting I drove around different times of the day to see which time was best for capturing what I had in mind. This image was shot at 3:30pm in April.Lighting
We used sunlight with no reflectors, no lighting lamps. At 3:30pm the sun lit the alley way creating shawdows that bounced from other walls while highlighting the texture of the wall behind me. Our goal was to shoot outdoors authentically. It wasn't overcast and not a lot of clouds in the sky that day so the sky(over head lighting) helped with creating an edgy mood while being real.Equipment
Nikon, lens.Inspiration
At the time I was creating pictures for my website/web-book/brand. Honestly was inspired to have it outside when I saw the architecture in Long Beach, the uniqueness of that alley and the potential to create something different.Editing
yes, little sharpening to define texture and contrast to make details pop.In my camera bag
Always have my camera, straps, film in bag. I pack bandaids (you never know when you'll need first aid kit) H20 in case I get lost. Protein Bar for mid day snacks and and a wireless charger for my phone. You never know if mid shoot it turns into a scary Ryan Murphy shoot with little bars on phone, no signal and you're trying to call for help. Next thing you know you're knocking on some strangers door with no end in sight. So yeah, wireless charger!Feedback
Observing how sunlight bounces off objects in different seasons. Having a journal to take notes and log time of day always helps.
