On my first trip to Germany, I felt that I needed to visit a concentration camp, and Dachau was the closest to my Munich location. I don't remember studying much about the holocaust in school, but learned a lot about it after moving to New York. As I was wandering around the grounds, I was captivated by this fence and the gate (the foreground). There was something about it that haunted me. Later, after returning back to modern day Germany, my theater history came back to me and I remembered that the play, Bent, by Martin Sherman, was set in the Dachau concentration camp, and if you know the play, you'll understand the haunting feeling I had about the fence
