This was my first time going up to the North Carolina side of the Smokies to see the elk during the rut. This grizzled bull had a harem of 6 or 7 cows that he strayed too far away from. Even chasing one that got curious of myself and the other photographers admiring them from the reach of our long lenses. After herding the cow back to the group he posed for a few shots and causally walked back to his grazing spot in the field close to the treeline.
