Location
I was standing in the lobby of a hotel in Dresden, Germany, having just come downstairs from my room. I was on my way out to take pictures of Dresden, when I looked up and saw this. The elevator shaft with the glassed in elevators climbing to a roof. I just looked up and took a shot.Time
It was probably 11 a.m.Lighting
It helped that each floor had an oval of lights around it, which helped soften the sky window.Equipment
It was taken hand-held, no flash, on my Canon 5D.Inspiration
It was exciting being in a new country and seeing so many things I never imagined. Like when I looked up at the ceiling and saw this.Editing
I did nothing except change the color to b/w. Nothing after that.In my camera bag
I have a dedicated flash, my go-to lens, 28mm-105mm, a 24mm wide, and a 400mm Canon lens. That one is pretty heavy, so I usually store it nearby so I can grab it when I want.Feedback
Having shot for a New England weekly newspaper, I was continually looking for new views of common things. Never stop looking!
