Just a few miles across the bay, as the crow flies, from Acadia National Park’s Mt. Desert Island lies the Schoodic Peninsula. With a rugged and rocky shoreline mostly composed of granite there can also be found several ancient volcanic dikes. The black striations formed long ago after magma pushed it’s way up to the surface through cracks in the older granite and cooled.
