Behind The Lens

Location

At the Austin Zoo , which primary focuses on giving homes to animals that are in unsafe conditions

Time

Mid afternoon

Lighting

The area is very hard to photograph as there is considerable shade. When shooting through fences , it’s often a challenge to make sure the light isn’t reflected off the barriers

Equipment

Sony 6500 with a 70-200 lens. Handheld

Inspiration

I always love capturing tigers playing in water. They are one of the few cats who enjoy it!

Editing

I always crop and touch up exposures etc in Lightroom , but nothing significant

In my camera bag

Always have a wide lens and a telephoto - you never know what distance you can get , particularly in a zoo

Feedback

Practice with fences! Lighting and aperture are so critical when trying to capture animals behind barriers
