Location
This photo was taken in Singapore at a place called Changi Point Coastal Walk in the eastern part of the city island. This boardwalk is open to the public 24 hours a day.Time
The photo was taken pre-dawn at 6.40am just as the sun rays were peeping through the clouds.Lighting
The initial few shots were challenging as ambient light was limited but as the sky lit up, it became easier to use the crystal ball.Equipment
Back then, I used the Fuji camera XT2 with 16-55mm F2.8 lens at F8 ISO 200 Shutter speed at 1/9 sec on tripod. The crystal ball was also secured with a base resting on another tripod.Inspiration
I initially took photos of the sun as it rose above the horizon but decided that to use a glass crystal ball for a different take of the sun rising. This showcased the hero of the shot.Editing
I basically took the photo right off the camera and simply post processed with the usual contrast, curves with a slight crop off the base of the crystal ball and a final rotation to place the crystal ball at the top right hand side of the photo. In my camera bag
I usually carry my camera with a few lens that I swap around that range from ultra wide (12mm) up to tele (105mm). As I am more inclined towards landscape / nature shots, I also bring my tripod and a clamp. Loads of memory cards and backup batteries. And of course a basic cleaning kit.Feedback
I strongly recommend that you recce the location as the photo was taken in the pre-dawn moments. Setting up might also take a bit of time as you need to prepare the glass crystal ball (by ensuring that it has no marks or stains) and making sure that your focusing point is at the location you want.
