Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken a couple of years ago during a photo shoot with other photographers. It was near downtown Lenoir (North Carolina). I was on a sidewalk heading west, when I spotted the flowers on someone's porch. If my memory serves me correctly, I shot the subject in the Fall Colors setting mode.Time
I shot this image around 11 AM.Lighting
The morning light was bright, but the overhang of the porch helped balance the light on the subject.Equipment
My camera gear (on this shoot) consisted of a Nikon D5200 camera, a tripod, and an Nikon 18 to 55mm zoom lens.Inspiration
My inspiration for this image is a sense of nostalgia. If a subject resembles something from my childhood, I tend to gravitate to that subject.Editing
There was some post-processing using Photo-Shop CS6 (I have since moved on to Photo-Shop CC). I used the quick selection tool over the flower petals. Next, I adjusted using brightness, curves and saturation levels. Next, I merged all layers. In my camera bag
The equipment I typically bring, will vary depending on what the location and subject matter is. For a casual photo shoot: Nikon D5200 with Nikon 18-55 mm Nikon lens and a tripod. For a serious project that requires very sharp images: Nikon D850, Sigma 50 mm prime lens, Tokina 17-35 mm zoom lens, Tokina 70-200 mm zoom lens and tripod.Feedback
Since I shot my image during a sunny, clear day, I looked for a slightly shaded area to avoid harsh shadows on the subject. You will need to be very familiar with your equipment, in order to make adjustments quickly. Use a small aperture (as F22) if you want everything to be sharp or if you want the subject sharp and the background slighty out of focus, then use a large aperture (as F4).
