Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the island shores of Nantucket, MA

Time

This was taken late afternoon on a fall day around 4:30 PM

Lighting

The ramp to this lighthouse really stood out to me. I wanted to capture the use of the ramp. The path of lost paint that has been created by many trips to light the lamp by the caretaker only to reveal the beauty of the raw wood

Equipment

Taken with a Nikon D5100 and the lens I used was a Nikon AF-s Nikkor 28-300mm 1:3.5-5.6G with a Lee Filter

Inspiration

Honestly, I was working on a freelance basis for Verizon at the time. I traveled to many locations throughout New England to capture images for their new office building. As I went along I captured photos for myself. Ones that were not on their list of locations. This one, in particular, stood out to me

Editing

Yes, I used Adobe Lightroom brushes and sliders to help highlight the lighthouse and the ramp

In my camera bag

Honestly, just my Nikon D5100, my 28-300 Nikkor, the stock lens that came with my kit, and a Lee Filter

Feedback

Sounds weird, listen to your eye. If something catches your eye there might be something there worthwhile. Time of day depending on the season plays a big role too. Now that you have your image just know that you can really turn it into whatever your eye saw using post-processing
