Great Shot
Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in a nearby town, Langebaan. I’m a self taught photographer. We were walking down to the beach, and I grabbed my camera, as it was a nice sunset.Time
This photo was taken around 6am. I was just walking behind my friend and thought it was the perfect time to snap a shot. It was a spring day, quite nice and calm weather. The smell of flowers were in the air.Lighting
I wanted this image to feel fun and calming, like being on holiday or a nice weekend getaway. I wanted to capture the weather perfectly like it was, and I think the image displays that nicely. The sunset created a nice soothing effect.Equipment
This was a shot on a sony A7II camera with a 18-55mm lens with 2.8 aperture. I took it via hand.Inspiration
I just remembered seeing photos of people on holiday, the palm trees definitely teiggered it. We were just heading for a nice beach walk hoping to get some photos.Editing
Back then I didn’t know anything about photoshop. I basically got the photo on my phone and imported it into my editing app VSCO (which I still use a lot of times). I applied a A6 filter, and adjusted some other settings. In my camera bag
The first thing I pack is my 18-50mm 2.8 lens. This lens has a nice angle and and take great close-ups as well. I also have a 70-300mm 4.5 lens, which I rarely use. And my 50mm 1.8 lens.Feedback
This images are best around an hour before the sun set. I like taking photos with lighting from the back. If your subject is strong, chances are the photo will be better. If the foreground is quite noisy, a simple background would be perfect.
