Location
The observation deck of the John Hancock building in Chicago, Illinois. The view is looking northeast. There were a lot of people taking photos on the west side for the sunset.Time
Int was late afternoon. My wife and enjoyed the walk to the tower from our hotel. We just made the March sunset; it must have been 7pm.Lighting
What I liked about this composition was that it captured both the architecture of Chicago and the flat serenity of Lake Michigan.Equipment
Sony a6000 w/19mm wide-angle lens and the ledge of the observation deck as an impromptu tripod to accommodate longer exposureInspiration
I spent a lot of time the previous two days around exploring Lake Michigan and observed how important it was to the residents of Chicago. I wanted a photo that caught some of the architecture of the city and the lake.Editing
Shot in RAW, simple cropping and editing in LR.In my camera bag
Typically I two cameras on me Sony A7 fitted with a 70-400mm lens ( I do a to of bird photography) and a Sony a6000 w/19mm side-angle lens for landscapes. I usually carry a 35mm lens in my bag extra batteries, SD cards, and occasionally I also have an Olympus OM-1 manual camera w/50mm lens.Feedback
Look for textures and try to fit in contrasting textures in the same frame.
