I lived on St Helena for 2 years and have an interview this week to head back for an 18 month contract. The island is one of the most isolated inhabited places on earth and yet it's been central to some of the major historical events including the slave trade, the East India Company and whaling. Darwin visited in 1835 and Napolean was exiled there for 6 years till his death in 1821. I left a meagre shadow in comparison but it was a shadow I felt lucky to have been able to cast.
