Great Blue Herons are the most romantic birds. There is a very specific courtship that occurs with the male heron making numerous trips to gather twigs and branches for the nest. When he gets to the nest the female either accepts or rejects the branch. The more branches she accepts the more likely the male is going to get lucky. When she does accept the branch they perform a dance where they twist their necks around each other and will reach up high and vocalized their love. When they do finally mate, it is a ballet of love. The birds are large and the male ever so gently will mount the female and caresses her during the mounting and then as if suspended in air they complete their mating
