I flew into Rapid City, South Dakota to visit my brother over the summer. He told me about Black Elk Peak, the tallest point in the state, and how he wanted to hike up with me. We decided to spend a night hammocking at the base of the peak so we could wake up early to hike to the top. It rained that night making hammocking miserable, but we stuck it out and at 3am decided to start our climb. The rain subsided and we were able to summit just in time for a beautiful sunrise. It was incredible.
