Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken during my visit in Laos. It is beautiful land with lot to offer, including striking contrasts when visiting jungle. While entering one the villages thrown aside on Mekong river, I came across this incredible moment seeing cheerful girls conversating with locals. I took a camera and simply snapped this picture.

Time

During full sunny day, rather midday where local lazy lifestyle was interrupted by visitors, wanting to explore more about traditions and cultures of Laotian people.

Lighting

Brightness of colors around gave me opportunity to simply improvise with amount of light reaching camera. However I always try to get best angle, as natural behaviour without posing occur more easily. To me it was sort of "National Geographic" moment. Many words in one picture.

Equipment

Camera, however no memory of what model. No flash or special lenses were used. i like a photography callenge when capturing moments and usually working with no high end equipment.

Inspiration

Something about the place was simply magic. To find yourself in time zone which doesn't exist anymore and realise, that with all old ways of life, hanging clothes on provisory string ropes, gardening directly in....very dry sand and saving water reservoir, there was striking fact of satellite dish "sitting" in the middle of the village. To locals it seemed to be obvious that new technology fits perfectly old times...

Editing

None at all.

In my camera bag

I used models of Canon, earlier Sony. No chance for Nikon. I never had a favorite camera type, rather worked with whatever was handy to create unforgettable moments. Sometimes it is also ipad or iphone. Of course it could be easier to target specific equipment, knowing how extensive my travel was at the time, however I never really bothered to do so.

Feedback

Being among people, photography can be definitely challenging task, especially when capturing someone's face or behaviour, gesture or simply blank face look. However, if photographer has a good feel of the moment, any of this type of photoshots come in manner which is most natural.
