Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in Lancaster Pa. I set up inside with a few different backdrops and my soft boxes and started shooting.Time
I shot with three different models that day (August 20, 2016) Michaela (pictured above) was my last model of the day. We started shooting around 12:30 or so that afternoon.Lighting
I had two soft boxes set up with continuous lighting. I also had a speed light set up with a reflector pointed up towards the model. My on camera flash triggered the speed light.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark II with my 70-200 lens at F3.5 1/200 sec. My 580 EX was on my camera which triggered the 430 EX that was pointing toward a reflector that was on the floor facing up towards the model.Inspiration
I wanted to experiment with some lighting techniques so I asked for some model volunteers to help me out. I was going for an edgy, high fashion look. Fashion Photography is one of my favorite types of photography to do.Editing
I do basic post-processing (sharpen, contrast, saturation, etc...) With this one I also used Smart photo editor to tweak the coloring a bit. Her skin is pretty much flawless so I didn't need to do any touch-up on her.In my camera bag
I always have my Mark II and quite a few different lenses. Usually my 24-105mm, 85mm, 50mm, and 70-200mm. I always have two flash units with me as well (my 580 EX and my 430 EX) Also at least one light stand, one umbrella, a tripod, and a reflector. It's always better to be prepared:)Feedback
Having a model who knows her angles and who has had some experience is a good place to start. I shot with Michaela before so we were used to each other:) She's a dancer and really knows how to move herself and which angles work best for her. Also, a good lighting set up is always key.
