Location
This photo was taken on my home mountain, the mountain right behind the town where I live. A beautiful peak with a great all round view called "Sambock".Time
I remember I woke up around 3 in the morning. A quick breakfast, a short drive to the trailhead and a 1 hour hike brought me to the place I wanted to go. A plateau below the peak, a really good place for a sunrise and to watch the fog rolling into the valley in the morning. It was january the 30th a really cold. The photo was taken around 8, and the dolomites where literally putting on a show that morning.Lighting
Sunlight is the best light =)Equipment
The photo was shot on a canon 5D mk 2 with a sigma 70 - 300 f4/5.6 lens and a tripod.Inspiration
I was photographing the other side for quite a bit and wen't a little down the hill. When I got back i saw those beautiful sunrays the sun made throught the peaks of the dolomites and I did not hesitate a second to take shots.Editing
I did some basic postprocessing and color corrections in lightroom to make the picture look as similar as possible to how it looked in reality. In my camera bag
I use a big and comfortable backpack with a lot of space for warm clothes, food and eventually camping gear. Besides all the “surviving" gear my bag is packed with a canon 5D mk 2, a canon 16-35 f2.8 and a canon 24-70 f2.8 lens, a sigma 70-300 f4/5.6 lens, a lot of akkus, a second SD card, a treefort lifestyles camera strap, a tripod, a intervalometer, a gopro hero 4 black edition and sometimes a syrp genie (a timelapse motor) a ballhead and a 1,6 m long slinder for shooting timelapses.Feedback
Important is to be able to get up that early in the morning and to have the motivation to climb a mountian. Then, fog and humidity in the air are always really nice in combination with the golden light in the morning. The sun then creates those beautiful rays with the mountains and the humidity.
