Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during a semi fancy photo shoot with a friend at a college campus near us. We actually weren't planning on doing any eye shots but when I stood in the green bushes my friend decided to try something and she told me to hold up the leaf. My friend Roxie actually ended up taking the picture and I started editing it and messing around with different shadows and filters and this is how it came out. We both love it and we both take credit for it.

Time

This photo was taken on a summer day at the hottest it could possibly be in Florida, around 3 o'clock. We were sweating and it was hot but it was worth it for the cool picture.

Lighting

Really to start out, we didn't edit the lighting. We use natural lighting then if we feel the need to edit the photos we do, if not we leave them with natural lighting.

Equipment

We used my friends camera and I think it was a Nikon d3300. We didn't use any special lenses or cameras.

Inspiration

My eye is the eye in the photo, they change color with different surroundings. I have this thing called a heterochromia eyes. If you hold up something green next to them they will look green, but if you leave them alone, they will have blue and green with a gold ring around the iris. Whenever we do a photo shoot my friend usually likes to try and take at least one picture of my eyes.

Editing

I don't know what post-processing is.. I am not a professional photographer or editor. Neither is Roxie, the girl that took the original photo. We don't use super nice cameras or editing apps. We use the talent and materials God gave us to take the photos we do.

In my camera bag

I normally just put in my Canon Rebel XTi and my Tamron Macro, 28-300 mm1:3.5-6.3 lens and an extra battery. That's all I have and that's all I use. Eventually I'd like to be able to afford a newer camera but I'm happy with how my pictures turn out for now.

Feedback

Practice, try new things. Look at other peoples photographs for inspiration and then make it your own. Every photo is going to be unique and beautiful in its own way. If you want a photo like this, look for a shady spot under a tree with lots of light around. Just have fun with your pictures. The best pictures I've ever taken were spontaneous, not in the set poses or landscapes I normally do. Try new angles, don't be afraid to try new things and experiment. You might just get an amazing gorgeous photo out of it.
