Behind The Lens

Location

There's a mountain in Dardanelle AR called Mt. Nebo. It's a great location for some fantastic shots, especially during the fall.

Time

I took this photo in the evening close to sunset. It was in the fall, so I believe it was around seven or so.

Lighting

When I took the shot, the sun hadn't quite set all the way but was still covered by clouds. This was great because it wasn't too bright and that made the colors really pop.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3200 with an 18-55 mm lens. I didn't have to use a tripod since it was still bright enough for me to use a descent shutter speed and avoid any shakyness that I mat have caused.

Inspiration

When I take photos, it's either because it reminds me of some memory or because it just looks right. In this case, the trees were at their peak changing colors, so it just looked right to take the shot.

Editing

I did do some post-processing. I cropped the photo a little to emphasize the rule of thirds between the trees, the flatter area, and the sky. I also adjusted the brightness just enough to take away any over exposed areas. I also touched up the colors just a hair to make them more defined. I try my best not to over do the touch up process in order to keep the original, natural look that was captured.

In my camera bag

In my bag, I normally carry an 18-55 mm lense, a 55-200 mm lens, the camera, and spare SD cards in case I run out of memory.

Feedback

The best time that I like to go and take shots is in the afternoon or evening. Really, the best advice that I could give is just keep an eye out for any colors that really jump out at you. That's what really got my attention to take this shot.
